Gemstones are created below the surface of earth, but there are other gemstones which are formed in different manner. Precious stones are formed when the minerals react with water that is found just below the surface of the earth. In this way minerals form gemstones like opals, agates. Amethyst gemstones are formed when the solution cools or evaporates. On the other hand, Gems like azurite or turquoise is formed when water mix with rocks that are rich in copper.
Based on formation, Gemstones are classified into five categories:

Semi-Precious gemstones: These gemstones are those which are value for their beauty and are available in all price ranges from low to high. Amethyst, Aquamarine, Citrine, Garnet are some semi-precious stones.
